August: Lee Hyori (이효리)
Lee Hyori (also known as Lee Hyolee or E Hyolee) is one of the most successful Korean actresses and singers today. This Korean icon started as a member of the famous Korean Pop group Fin.K.L. and since she went solo, her path to fame blazed from one album to another. After winning a number of awards in Korea, Lee Hyori became her countries highest-paid female singer of her time.
Hyori was the lead singer of Fin.K.L since she was the oldest among the members, and she was the last to join the group before their 1998 launch. Their first single was launched in May 1998 and was entitled “Blue Rain.” What made their group popular though was their second single, “To My Boyfriend,” which became their first number one single. Fin.K.L since then became one of the most popular pop groups in Korea.
Her solo career started after the group’s fourth album launch as an MC in a TV program (Time Machine). She had her first album was released at the end of 2003 entitled “Stylish.” With that she managed to grab almost every award at Daesangs (most revered music awards in South Korea). The year 2003 was known as “The Year of Hyori” since this was her golden age in the music industry.
She also started her acting career in 2003 through her first drama series, “Three-Leaf Clover,” as the female lead. This was followed by “If In Love… Like Them” in 2007.
So far Hyolee has three albums, six singles from her first two, and four commercial singles.
